as humans, we are users of space, a space we have created around/for ourselves.  this creative process has required an understanding of scale and our role in that scale - everything we create is created in accordance with the scale of the human body, in order to make one feel comfortable in space.

as we move throgh space, we are constantly looking, processing and deciphering what surrounds us- there is always something to notice. we map and sort information as we move through space, helping ourselves to understand it.

how do we read space? how do we read a city?

we can use narrative and fiction as instruments of civic engagement - in other words we can try to script and plan interactions within a space.

intented design/use/fuction vs. how it is actually used

urbanism is a major topic for designers

what elments make a city? people, buildings, noise, traffic, public transport networks. the city is a space in which elements become joined and begin to intertwine in the functionality of space.

but without people what defines a city? there would be no traffic, no congestion, no pollution, no rush, no mass congrigations -  what is the functionality/purpose of a space without people to interact with it?

the city is permeable, it fuels opportunity - gaps in design create new opportunites for the new - for the gaps to be filled

life/vitality of the city is what defines it, within it’s space.
